Division of Educational Leadership (DoEL) News

by: Dr. Kathy Brown, Coordinator

NCATE Update

The Division of Education Leadership (DoEL) has already begun preparing for the next National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) visit scheduled for the spring of 2012. The report for the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC)--the professional association that establishes national standards for programs in educational leadership--must be rewritten to reflect the new NCATE format and assessments. Candidate and program data must be collected and analyzed to validate that graduates have acquired and demonstrated mastery of ELCC Standard elements. As the first step toward demonstrating compliance with these new professional standards, the DoEL is introducing candidates to a more detailed description of assignments to be assessed and to more specific rubrics and scoring guides that are aligned with new ELCC standard elements.
