School of Education E-newsletter

Literacy Education

by: Dr. Jennifer L. Altieri, Coordinator

Earlier this academic year, the Division of Literacy Education mailed our annual letter to all current candidates informing them of their progress in the program. Many candidates--who had stopped taking coursework for one reason or another-received the letter and have called informing us of their intent to begin taking courses again. We are excited to have these candidates back pursuing their degree!

If you know anyone interested in earning a Master of Education in Literacy Education degree, please ask them to contact Dr. Jennifer Altieri at 953-3162 or jennifer.altieri@citadel.edu.

Once again, we are offering The Citadel Summer Reading Program in June. The program runs from June 9-19, 2008, meeting from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Children participating in the program receive diagnostic testing and one-on-one tutoring from a graduate student. Parents and teachers must complete the application nominating a child for the program. Please call 953-5097 to request an application form. All parents who submit applications will be informed in April or May if their child has been accepted. Enrollment is limited.

Faculty Kudos:
Dr. Jennifer L. Altieri has been accepted as a program reviewer for the International Reading Association. In addition to a highlighted presentation at the International Reading Association Conference in May 2008, Dr. Altieri has three manuscripts accepted for publication in national journals this semester. Those articles will appear in Reading Horizons, Teaching Children Mathematics, and Teaching Exceptional Children.
