Administrative Placements
Congratulations to graduates of the Division of Educational Leadership who earned promotions and administrative placements this fall. Eight graduates earned promotions: two elementary assistant principals, Anne McFadden and Brian Clark, were promoted to principal; one middle school assistant principal, Michael Caviris, was promoted to principal; one middle school principal, Lori Cumbee, was promoted to high school principal; two high school assistant principals, Kenny Farrell and Scott Matthews were promoted to middle school principals; and one high school assistant principal, Reggie Thompson, was promoted to career school director. Former SDE curriculum specialist, Terri Siders, acquired an assistant principal position.Although many of the graduates from the Division of Educational Leadership secure administrative positions within two years of completing the program, several recent spring and summer graduates received administrative assignments already for fall 2006:
- Two graduates were assigned as assistant principals in elementary schools: Mary Rita Watson and Michael Williams.
- Three graduates were assigned as assistant principals in middle schools: Bethany Giles-Burgess, Brian Rutherford, and Jacob Tuttle.
- Seven graduates were assigned as assistant principals in high schools: Adrian Busch, Maurice Cannon, Gregory Harrison, Gregory Kinsey, Margaret Mims, Sharon Randall, and Thad Schmenk.
The Citadel Hosts Leadership Study Groups
The Division of Educator Quality and Leadership’s Principal Induction Program is offering four regional leadership study groups for second-year principals. The Citadel has been selected as a host site. Dr. Brenda Boykin, Director, Principal Induction Program, has established partnerships with Clemson University, Columbia College, Francis Marion University, and The Citadel to conduct quarterly sessions for second-year principals. Leadership study groups (LSG) will discuss leadership issues that impact candidate achievement. LSG-1, hosted by Francis Marion University, will address Building an Academic School Leadership Team; LSG-2, hosted by The Citadel, will address Impacting Candidate Achievement through the Change Process; LSG-3, hosted by Clemson University, will address Instructional Supervision through Effective Coaching; and LSG-4, hosted by Columbia College, will address Women in School Leadership.South Carolina Educational Leadership Round Table (SCELRT)
Mr. Mark Bounds, Director, Office of School Leadership, and all of South Carolina administrator preparation programs at Charleston Southern University, Clemson University, Columbia International University, Converse College, Furman University, South Carolina State University, Southern Wesleyan College, The Citadel, and the University of South Carolina-Columbia, are partnering to address legislative mandates and issues related to administrative preparation. The first initiative for SCELRT is the highly qualified administrator. The DoEL will keep you informed of SCELRT’s future activities.![]() |

Teacher Cadet Day Volunteers |
Cadets from The Citadel’s School of Education Ed Leaders Club served as tour guides as well as members of a discussion panel for Teacher Cadet Day. Teacher Cadet Day is a day set aside each year for high school students to visit The Citadel and learn tips for success in college.
