Honor Society for Education Inducts Citadel Students

Ten honorees were inducted in the Citadel's chapter of  Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honor Society in Education on January 25, 2007 in a ceremony in the Regimental Commander's Riverview Room.  Dr. Pam Buckley, Executive Director of KDP and Dr. Tony Johnson, Dean, School of Education, addressed the inductees, their families and guests, and School of Education faculty.  

Membership in the organization requires both outstanding academic performance and active participation in service-learning activities.   Exemplary service activities performed by current members include: 

  • Carla Black, Vice President, and Chairperson for Reading is Fun Week activities received funding for a Reading is Fun Grant to purchase science books for second graders.  Ms. Black and her high school Honors Chemistry class read to 148 students;
  • Ms. Angela Wright, teacher at C. E. Williams School for the Creative & Scientific Arts and 118 of her students read 118 books for a total of 275 minutes; and
  • Ms. Leslie Johnson, Committee Chairperson for Service Learning recruited new inductees and current members to volunteer at the Happy Days and Special Times Kids Kickin' Cancer 2007 Happy Days Charity Gala & Auction.  Ms. Johnson, Mrs. Celina Anthony and her daughter, Ancely, and Dr. Kathy Laboard Brown, Chapter Counselor participated;
  • Also meriting acknowledgement is Mr. Michael Griggs, teacher at St. Stephen Middle School and Ms. Constance Dopierala for submitting proposals to present their research at the Kappa Delta Pi 2007 Biennial Convocation in Louisville, Kentucky on November 1-3, 2007.
